Why have this event?
It is so inspiring to be around other illustrators and people doing what you love to do. That’s what the Sketchup is for: inspiration, connection and collaboration. For us to get together, talk and connect. Because it’s nice being around one another, and good things may come of it. 🙂
What is the Sketchup exactly and how did it start?
The Sketchup is an artist gathering and meetup organized by Madhuvanthi Mohan (Madhu) of Something Sketchy. She retails products with her illustrations on them in 15 stores across 9 cities in India and 4 stores in NYC where she’d spent last summer doing a few courses at the School of Visual Arts. Madhu started the Sketchup about a year and a half ago after attending a conference for creative entrepreneurs and realising how much she missed being around other artists and illustrators ever since quitting working full time as a copywriter.
In the past year and a half, Sketchup has had 8 sessions, all of them in Mumbai. At each session a Speaker(s) talks about their journey in illustration, a Banner Artist who designs the cover page and profile picture for the month and a Topic Picker who picks a topic that everyone sketches to. All entries on the page with a link to their pages.
Who have past Speakers been?
Past Speakers have been Ayaz Basrai of the Busride Design Studio, Abhijieet Kini of Abhijeet Kini Merch, Cyrus Daruwala of I Take This Train Too, Saurabh Sadanand Chandekar, Mira Malhotra of Studio Kohl, Prasad Bhat of Graphicurry and Saumin Patel.
Past Banner Artists, Topic Pickers and regular Sketchup members are Sajid Wajid Sheikh, Ritaban Das, Ankita Shinde, Pranita Kocharekar, Mitisha Mehta and Tosha Jagad of Moe Toys, Sirawon Khathing, Sebin Simon, Newman DSilva, Vydika Rao and Manas Kunder.
Below are some photos of past Sketchup sessions.
The talks will be followed by an hour of chatting, a sketching activity, an on spot postcard art exchange and sharing favourite books, so do carry your sketchbook and any graphic novels/art prints/books you love, to show and inspire other artists who are attending!
We hope you can make it to the first Bangalore edition and hang out and meet some interesting artists! The event is free, but entry is by RSVP only. If you would like to attend, do write in to email@example.com with your name, a line about yourself and a link to your work. You can reach me (Madhu) at +91 99-30-710205 if you need anything.
Look forward to seeing you there! 🙂
